What to do when you depart your vacation rental

Updated over a week ago

After enjoying a relaxing vacation in a rental property, it's important to make sure you leave the property in good condition for the next guests. Here are some departure instructions to follow when leaving a vacation rental:

  1. Check-Out Time - Most rental properties have a specific check-out time, usually between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. Make sure to double-check the check-out time with the property owner or rental agency before your departure day to avoid any confusion.

  2. Clean Up - Before you leave, make sure to to review the departure instructions in the property's manual. In general, the property should be in good condition. Excessive messy or neglectful care of the villa may result in additional cleaning fees that can be taken from the damage deposit.

  3. Check for Damages - Do a quick walk-through of the rental property to ensure that everything is in the same condition as when you arrived. If you or someone in your party caused any damages, notify the property owner or rental agency immediately to arrange for repairs or compensation.

  4. Return Keys and Gate Remote - Make sure to return all keys and gate remotes to the property owner or rental agency as instructed. Some rental properties may have keyless entry or coded lockboxes, so make sure to double-check the departure instructions. Be sure to remove the gate remote from your key chain and leave the keys and gate remote on a table near the front entrance.

  5. Say Goodbye - Before you leave, take a moment to say goodbye to the rental property. You may have made some great memories during your stay, and it's always nice to leave on a positive note.

Following these departure instructions will help ensure a smooth and stress-free check-out process. Remember to always respect the rental property and treat it as if it were your own. Happy travels!
