You will hear that the best beaches are near Palma and along the eastern coastal areas, however, there are a few gems that should not be missed. Though they may take some work to find, they are well worth the effort as most are uncrowded or even frequently empty, and provide you with scenery that is nearly impossible to match anywhere else on the island. These include:

Caleta de Frares and Es Coll Baix, both in the north. The latter is just outside of Alcudia and is described as blissfully private, at the foot of a cliff and near to a tower dating to the 1500s. The former is a noted place to enjoy the sunset, and is found near Mal Pas Bon Aire.

Playa de Muro - Another near Alcudia in the north, it is a golden and sandy beach popular with locals. Close to many cafes, it has all that more well-known beaches have to offer, without the crowds.

Cala Tuent - On the western coast it is near to the Sant Llorenc Chapel just a short drive from Soller, and is reachable only after a truly challenging mountain drive.

Cala Deia - Also close to Soller, it is considered a chic secret and known for frequent visits by one of the island's most famous residents, Robert Graves, while living here. It is also considered a nice area for beachfront restaurants!

Of course, this list of places to visit could easily contain scores of smaller villages and larger resort areas, and each of these would include another long list of the best things to see, taste, or do. What this means is that, wherever your accommodation might be found, you will be within easy reach of a few excellent restaurants, some wonderful shops, loads of scenery, and endless things to see or do. Even if you limit yourself to sipping a few local wines or beers and eating some of the delicious Mallorcan specialties.
