🇭🇷 Croatia Entry Requirements for US Citizens (2026)
Passport
A valid US passport is required. Make sure it's valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended stay — this is a non-negotiable requirement. Also ensure you have at least one blank page in your passport for an entry stamp.
Visa
No visa is required for US passport holders for tourist or business trips of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, starting from the date of first entry.
Schengen Rules
Croatia is a member of the Schengen Area. Time spent in any Schengen country counts toward your total 90-day allowance.
ETIAS (Coming Late 2026 — Not Required Yet)
Starting in late 2026, ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) will become a mandatory requirement for visa-exempt travelers entering Croatia and other Schengen countries. No travel authorization is needed for the EU in 2025, and the ETIAS rollout has been postponed to 2026 — so if you're traveling soon, you don't need it yet. It is an online pre-travel application, similar to the US ESTA system.
Registration
All foreign citizens must register with local police within 48 hours of arrival. (Hotels typically handle this automatically for you.)
Other Tips
You may need to show proof of onward travel and sufficient funds to cover your trip.
No vaccinations are mandatory to enter Croatia.
Croatian border police have the authority to conduct random ID checks, including on inland roads — carry your passport at all times.
Right now in summer 2026, US citizens can visit Croatia visa-free for up to 90 days with just a valid passport. ETIAS will be required later in the year, so keep an eye on the official launch date if you're planning a trip for the fall.
