Bringing Frozen Food to St Lucia

The Process of Shipping Food Items from the USA to St Lucia

Updated 4 June 2025

Here is the process that is required to enable food items to be shipped from the USA to St Lucia for your villa stay.

  1. Send an email to the Saint Lucia Veterinary Division Agriculture (vlsdsec.agriculture@gmail.com) to request an application for a Domestic Meat/Fish Permit. State your arrival dates and flights. They will forward you the application.

      Contact information:

Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer

Veterinary & Livestock Services Division (VLSD)

Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Rural Development

      Tel: 1(758) 468-5621/518-2067

      Fax: 1(758) 450-4581

      Email: vlsdsec.agriculture@gmail.com

      Website: https://www.moaslu.govt.lc/

  1. In the application, use exact language when describing what you intend to bring to Saint Lucia (e.g., "1.7 Lbs Pork Ribs"). It s good idea to have all your purchasing done ahead of time so that you have weights correct.

  2. Make sure all items are frozen in their original packaging and have USDA inspection stamps.

  3. Ask that the Meat/Fish Permit include the alternate language for Item 4: "Meat and poultry products in sealed package with visible stamp/seal of inspection by competent authority of county of origin." Once complete, the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer will email you an approved Permit.

  4. Good idea to use a cooler with latches rather than a cardboard box with foam inserts.

  5. The cost of the Permit will be $25 ECD, due at the time of entry.

  6. If you are landing after 4:30pm or during a weekend, you will need to coordinate with Veterinary Affairs to have an Inspection Officer on duty when you arrive. You will need to pay overtime hours for the officer, which will be about $200 ECD payable upon entry. US dollars are accepted.

  7. Enter through the "Items to Declare" line at the airport and the Inspection Officer will meet you there.

Enjoy your stay in St Lucia !
